I don’t know if I am biting off more than I can chew, but since my classes at FSCJ were ending on August 20, 2024 for SUMMER 2024, I wondered
“Is there a way I could TRANSFER to another school for FALL 2024?”
I did my research and indeed there is! So I applied, went through all the hoops including old transcripts and Financial Aid, and I am now:
Enrolled in
University of Central Florida
towards a
“Bachelors of Arts of Religious and Cultural Studies- online”
It took a lot of searching to find a college I could attend on time: the Transfer deadline was for this school was JULY 1ST and I started looking JUNE 25TH so it was a rush.
Most of my ducks are in a row there; I’m still finishing FSCJ courses. They end August 20. New classes as UCF start August 19th – A DAY EARLY.
My admittance DEPENDS upon having an AA, including Foreign Language requirement, so I really hope I finish this Spanish II ok as well as the math one.
I was used to accelerated classes and 16 weeks has been a LONG time. All my new classes will be 16 weeks. So I decided I would try for a full 12 credit course load which allows FAFSA to pay “Full Tuition” via Pell. I’m still waiting on hearing from my advisor; I have a “HOLD” until she goes over courses with me, but I think I picked ok.
But MEANWHILE, I wondered if there was ALSO a way to do WORK STUDY online for some spending money?
So far, It’s a “maybe” as I can’t see their job list yet. HOWEVER:
There’s also INTERNSHIPS which have fewer hours than most jobs; 15 hours a week at $17.50 seems pretty common.
I found one:
“Political and Communications Internship position for America Votes”
seems to be “all online”. No idea what it entails, but if it’s geared towards being something a 20-22 year old can do part time, hopefully me at 53 years old could manage it (or am I 52? I’m 52).
So this morning, I was filling it out and I reached the point of REFERENCES.
Well, being rather intentionally isolated and staying at home and only really dealing with family, I don’t have much.
But I wonder if being a REFERENCE is something you can do?
Can I put you down as a reference? If not, that is ok. I haven’t done this kind of thing in a million years.
I think the job starts at the beginning of August so I _doubt_ I’ll be successful getting it in time and them checking. THEN AGAIN, being a college internship thing, they might be _used to_ last minute students being late for everything so _maybe_ it’ll be ok.
I think the job entails a kind of “get out the vote” thing and I think it’s ‘progressive’ or whatever which fits my value system well enough.
So that’s my update!
