I don’t blame the times table guy. His world is small, but complete and certain to him. This makes him very confident in areas far outside his reach. (That is an excellent 1-100 times table display by the way) The math formula guy inhabits a bigger world than times table guy but it is forever incomplete and uncertain. They will always have areas of doubt. This is the Dunning Kruger effect: People with limited skills or knowledge overestimate their abilities. Times table guys will sometimes use the doubt and uncertainty of the math formula guy as a weapon against them. It doesn’t work as a weapon but as it feeds back into their overconfidence, they will always feel as if they have won every battle, regardless of their objective loss.
