I don’t believe in luck. HOWEVER, if one redefines it a little, I *do* believe in affordances. Similar to what everybody’s saying here. You observe the chaos within and outside of you and find clear paths.
It’s different from goal setting though. It’s more a case of noticing opportunities.
In my view of things, “the odds” are only minimally useful, as a first step. You don’t stop at statistical probabilities, otherwise you lose opportunities.
How many actors (those taking action) are you?
How do statistics affect ONE? A singularity?
You have to know the proper scope. Are you speaking of “all of humanity”? “the Universe”? The “tendencies of our time”? Or are you speaking of yourself? Or somebody else?
Once you’re speaking of an individual, it’s easy to throw statistical probabilities out the window, or most of them anyway, because your little “blip” could be part of the common area of the Bell Curve distribution, or it could be an outlier.
