I could feel the “pressure of the crowd” very easily from a young age and never liked it and rarely gave into it. I get instantly contrary to the crowd in some way. One notable exception is when I was 12.5 and I suddenly found myself in a circle with another boy, 1/2 chanting my name and the other 1/2 chanting his name. Probably 50-80 kids on the middle school lawn.
So, we fought, even thought neither one wanted to. Long story short, that was the only time that happened to me and might have formed my awareness of crowd pressure and unwillingness to give the crowd’s opinion much credence. I’ll mock a debater who is clearly influenced by the crowd online.
So, perhaps I come at it from a different (weird) perspective.
