I can be moderate and tolerant to the point of ludicrous idiocy but just for myself. I wouldn’t advocate it for others too much ’cause that’s authoritarian and I try to avoid that behavior.
I don’t think we’ve ever had anything but authoritarian govts. Some just pretend they’re not better than others.
“Why regulations are necessary for a functional government that can properly pretend to not be making people’s lives entirely miserable some of the time”.
In short, lie to me but do it right.
Tell me I can do anything and make me believe it, all the while knowing that there’s a ceiling on my advancement.
Prevents the gaping yaw of “what’s the point?” and spurs me on to do stuff
I agree. It’s civility. “White Lies” are the lubrication of a functional society. Besides, it’s not really “truth” when people give their unpolished opinions. It’s just their unpolished opinions.
Did you ever walk past people and get the urge to say “fuck you?” to them, just for a moment?
Hard to believe even the Dalai Lama doesn’t have people in his life where that urge doesn’t cross his brain real quick.
But you don’t say it. Most people don’t anyway.
