I believe you 100% in what you’re saying. My concern, being in the USA, is American Jews, whether Zionist or anti-Zionist, atheist or convert or Orthodox or liberal or whatever categories one may put in. It makes me nervous to have the President of the United States put in an Executive Order declaring ethnicity and nationality are the only recognized aspects of Jewish people. That this order ALSO gives protections is fine and all. But it is making a distinction in this way that is not an American way of looking at citizenry and as a supposed protection against discrimination, I think it will ultimately spawn quite the opposite as it designates a class of citizen that did not exist before.

What does it mean to be an ethnic Jew? Is it DNA? Is it practicing vs non-practicing? What sets the criteria?

I fully believe this executive order is a Trojan Horse. It only looks like a gift.

I fully believe the vagueness is to serve the discriminator and not for protection.

Example: Someone asks for protection under the designation ethnic Jew.

Attorney for the discriminator looks up synagogue attendance records. Hasn’t been going for years. Not an ethnic Jew.

Or same attorney orders DNA testing. No evidence of Jewish DNA because it was a conversion.

Case dismissed. Discriminator wins.

This is why I say that now Israel will have final say from a US point of view.

As these cases will be battled in US secular court, it may be possible to reach a situation where it can’t be conclusively determined if the citizen deserves protection because it can’t be proven conclusively that the individual is actually an ethnic Jew.

So, how can you escalate it? Israel. Is this person Jewish? If so, they get ethnic Jewish protections. If not, they do not.

Peter Shalen I don’t trust several Federal judges nor the current executive branch nor a number of Senators and members of the House at the moment – nor a number of Governors for that matter.

There’s a lot of slimy evangelical christian lawyers in the mix and they have networks and strange justifications for things. You’re

They can lie. They can lawyer up and lie powerfully with fancy words. They can use their networks to help them lie, or “you don’t want to mess up this young man’s bright future with a silly mark on his record like this”.

If the discriminator’s opinion carries greater weight than the victim, it’s doomed except for the most blatantly obvious cases.

I hope y’all are right. I admire the positive thinking. It just has the feel of a Southern USA Christian Fundamentalist lawyer written all over it and they are very sneaky in the game of “what we didn’t say is what we really mean”.

After the synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh, the VP brought out a Rabbi that turned out to be a Jews for Jesus Christian minister pretending to be a Rabbi.

Gotta watch out as there’s sneaky games afoot. I admire y’all having positivity and trust but I’m a big skeptic of this administration and its aims and methods, that’s all.
