Hopefully! Some people continue to bow under social pressure though. But yeah, something happens around 27/28 yrs old where you start seeing the social games and realize so many of them are just extensions of high school/middle school stereotyping.

27/28 seems to be the age around where people start calling you “Sir” and “Ma’am”. Took me aback for a bit but once I got used to it, it was no big deal.

====

I’m from NJ and it was pretty sudden. I stopped being called “kid” or “you” like overnight. “Sir”, “Mister” stuff like that was my generic name now.

====

It’s not as messy as some of my spreadsheets because it was pretty straightforward to make: Since there’s not that many years in a person’s life, I did a google search for “acting like a __ year old” 103 times and recording the number of google results, rather than making an automated system..

====

When I get an idea in my head, I pursue it. I _might_ have used a bit of a cheat, thinking back. I once had a plugin that lets you open a number of sites simultaneously or in a timed fashion. I *might have* premade the queries, then did them all at once.

But I still went to each and recorded the number.

If I’m dealing with thousands of potential similar operations, then I’ll take the time to put together more elegant solutions.

Same I love getting a ‘snapshot’ of aggregated opinion like this. I don’t think of Google as entirely trustworthy but since they have the data in _some_ form, it’s at least a standard to work with.

 I love data. I don’t trust it quite to the level of the logical positivists but on a pragmatic level I find it very useful. I personally don’t like being reduced to a number – loss of identity and nuance – but when it’s pragmatic I’m fine with it, so long as it doesn’t guide malicious public policy. I’d considered doing a sentiment anaysis but then I realized I’d have to install some pre-made software for it or find some code and hack something together and didn’t feel like it. I did some sentiment analysis, basic AI stuff long ago back in 1999-2002 (in Excel and visual basic believe it or not), for a pharmaceutical company.. but the tools are much more sophisticated now…. and it’d be silly not to avail of it. In the end though, I’d probably end up getting kicked off google for scraping.
