He’s behaving like those extra charges you get on your phone bill for services you didn’t ask for and never use. Nobody likes those.

First tasted real mexican food when I moved to southwest florida. Had no idea that shit was so good. Love Mexican food now. Before? In New Jersey? I thought Taco Bell was Mexican. I was stupid suburbanite.

I remember news stories in the 80s about drug mules and wicked cartel border towns in movies. Hadn’t heard those stories in years. Hearing them again over the past year. Not sure where they were all the years inbetween.

It seems to me somebody resurrected up an old issue to hep win an election and to justify amassing a big budget of money to play around with and it worked so far.

We have lots of farms around here full of illegals from Mexico and from Central / South American countries. They supply Wendys, McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc with their tomatoes, potatoes, corn as well as orange tree farms and stuff. Huge farms. Lots of workers.

They get paid less than minimum wage but they keep the housing and living costs in the town they live in low enough where they can manage a little slice of their American dreams.

Their kids are citizens, usually stay there. The grandkids though usually break out and start their own businesses and such and do well. Sometimes they’ve bought out the big farms and made them co-ops and stuff.

No drug problems here, although they *did* have to crack down on a sex-trafficking problem a few years ago.

It’s not the Syrians blowing stuff up though. It’s usually locals who get bored with life and suddenly want to be “authentic” (which they never were) and have ‘something to prove’. It’d be adolescent idiocy if adolescents could get a hold of high powered American explosives.

The fact that they’re not immigrants makes a huge difference. They’re stuck between two worlds. I remember this with 1st and 2nd generation Italian American kids growing up. Their parents or grandparents were straight from Italy.

Even thought neither their parents nor grandparents were Mafia, suddenly the kids or grandkids BORN here and raised here, suddenly get an interest in being Mafia bosses and start experimenting with organized crime. Idiots. I don’t see much difference except the explosives.

====

BUT… I’d rather have a disgruntled teenager hosting illegal poker games or forcing local businesses to pay “protection” than disgruntled teenagers driving explosive vans into groups of people. THAT makes a huge difference between the two.

I feel bad. I spent most of my life not tasting real Mexican food but once I tasted it, it was over. We add cilantro to everything now. Even our Italian dishes have a Mexican flavor to them… and we’re neither italian nor mexican…
