He’s a negative nellie right now but what’s he got to lose? Hawking had his “AI will doom us if we don’t sign this thing”

David Attenborough “humans are a plague – monitor your population”

and any number of prominent scientists, towards the last decades of illustriative careers, make world proclamations and calls to action for a cause they care about.

It’s part of their calling.

 Ok, looks like he was speaking for: https://populationmatters.org/
=====
Ok. It’s basically:
“Don’t have so many darn kids”.
Probably pro-condom, pro-family size education stuff.
UN’s had programs doing that for decades and in India it made a HUGE difference.

But I think “Population Matters” is to that what PETA is to “Spay and neuter your pet” programs: a bit of Green Extreme but with a solid basic premise.
======
  Another example: member of PETA but strongly focused on single issue.
====
 Charlton Heston “Cold Dead Hands” speech is another example.
====
But it does work. If the UN hadn’t been on a 60 year campaign to improve family size education, condom distribution, etc in India, China, Nepal, Europe, USA, our population would be MUCH higher than it is today.

  These are result of focused family size education programs over the last 60 years by WHO and other organizations. It’s a conscious effort to change minds so that it becomes part of our regular culture and it’s worked.We were born into it.
=====
 Programs by the WHO compete with common “nativist” thinking, which comes under a lot of names. “Family values”, “Population Replenishing” with Doom and Gloom attached, vaguely hinting at what it means- but EVERY once in a while, an article says straight out what it’s talking about.

Conflict of interest notice:

I believe Hans Rosling of Gapminder Foundation.

Oh epic! Hans’ son is continuing the work. This is from 10 months ago about common misconceptions among educated Europeans and educated Americans.

  OO I was wrong.
It’s not bigger population due to better health care but it’s a statistical effect from a large population boom a few decades ago.
====
Ok. I’m gonna bite the bullet and Like all the Gapminder stuff and look at what resources they have.

It’s been 5 years since I first saw the Population myth video and my opinion hasn’t changed since. I am convinced so I will run with it unless I find something they say that’s contrary to fact.

and I’ll find a copy of https://www.amazon.com/Factfulness-Reasons-World-Things-Better/dp/1250107814

That Bill Gates loves it is something I’ll just have to get over.

About to read:
Factfulness: Ten Reasons We’re Wrong About the World—and Why Things Are Better Than You Think
by Hans Rosling.

[I saved a tree by getting it from b-ok (dot) org. Shhhh ]

Never saw it, and it’s fiction.

Picking and choosing choicest people is a questionable act to me.

=====
idiocracy. Too influential. I usually avoid those.
—–
 It’s too simple. Of course population has gone up. A lot of that is due to land purchasing. A lot is due to greater efficiency in city management. Commercial crop production has reduced the need for wasteful family farms. Food distribution is efficient.
====
birth control allows for smaller family units. Smaller units = better resource management.
