Knowing isn’t controlling. Usually, it’s just “worry” unless you create “action”. But what’s a good action and a bad action?

—-

Oh criticize by all means. Talk. Encourage others to listen. Talk some more. Get more to listen.

Listening and talking are actions too.

=====

I’m not implying “controlling action creates fact”. I don’t even fully understand that phrase.

I’m saying that you can learn learn learn learn learn learn.

But then there’s “do”.

I think it’s no coincidence that most leaders are surprisingly ignorant and only know the “Mickey Mouse” version of things. More heavy than that and they don’t know what action to take next.

======

Told parents their dead kids don’t exist. Convinced millions of the same.

Voiding people from ever having existed is a pretty wrong thing.

======

Alex Jones is an authority figure and has a following.

—-

Storytelling is fine. But many get lulled to sleep thinking they just ‘got woke’.

====

I don’t follow “thought leaders” Too much single-perspective.

=====

I know you’re not blind. But I know the power of a convincing storyteller.

====

I have a “no documentaries” policy. Following it for many years. Last one I let myself watch was “Fast Food Nation”. That’s how long ago. Prior to that, it’d been a long time.I had friends at college that told me how documentaries function to convince logical thinkers. Film school kids.
=====
 It starts with “What if” and grows from that. I also learned from learning “how to sell”. I can’t do it but I know how it works.Goes back to that guy in the 1920s. Forget his name right now.
=====
  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Bernays ah, this guy. No, I’m not trying to convince you.I’m presenting truth as I know it. How you take it isn’t up to me.
=====
 There’s a science to it and anybody talking behind a microphone with an audience is using it to one degree or another.Preachers, Jones, corporate public relations, memes, govts — in that sense, Jones isn’t wrong about the disease but you see, he’s not the cure.I’m not the cure.But I know it takes self-vigilance most of all.
=====
 This is why I’m CAUTIOUS about one-way communication.I can talk with you. I can’t talk to a documentary maker. One way and they hold most of the cards as long as I’m watching.
======
 I don’t know about others. I know myself and that’s why I avoid them.
======
 I know I’m biased. I’m pretty sure I know what kinds. Took some tests and the answers matched my sense of “me”, even if I didn’t like seeing it all written out.So, now that i know, I can work with and around myself my biases.
====
 test pegged me as “Progressive Activist”. Looking at the others, I recognized where I fit. Is it perfect fit? No. But close enough.So, that’s what it is. From my view, I’m probably going to see some pretty open-minded folks as far-right because they’re “just to the right of me”.So, now I know. I can work around it and watch
=====
 I’m usually “blind” to politics. Bores me. Gossip.But, I started paying attention around 2014. Took my first political test. Saw where I fit. I was surprised. Taken many others, all pretty close.
======
 Oh I do too. But, it’s a common ground to work from to “compare”. On the “compass”, I’m bottom left of the bottom left. Took it 3 times. 2014 2016 2018 Shifted only slightly each time.So I’m consistent. Weird thing to see but it makes sense.
=====
 I took other tests. I’m “Neutral Good Human Sorcerer (5th Level)” Also come up as Chaotic good sometimes.INFP, or INTP. Low empathy on an empathy test but JUST under the line of empathy, which made sense to me as I can turn it on and off at will.Lots of tests. I call them “Personality sorters”.I love the variety of personality on the planet. It’s why I try to keep a wide range of friends. I’ve only blocked 3 folks in 14 years on Facebook, although I’ve unfriended a few.
=====
 Oh, that’s from online tests. I take them for fun with a grain of salt.
=====
 It’s all good. I don’t take stuff personally. I don’t judge you poorly on any back-and-forth stuff happening in comments. It’s the nature of back-and-forth. To and fro. If we sat around agreeing always, it’d just be a lot of agreeing.
=====
 I take that thing you said there probably too seriously in my life. Why I avoid documentaries. Why I don’t have favorite youtubers. Why I don’t have favorite newscasters.I struggled to find favorite news outlets a couple of years ago. Found a few but even most of them let me down.So, the best I can do is watch for my bias. Watch for bias from one-way communications and I avoid the extremes when I can.Of course, I’m apparently politically in “an extreme” already – I’m a natural far left – so even within THIS I avoid too much in the midst of that and try to push myself into the next zone now and again.Gotta stretch.
—–
  I never found one. Instead, I use a lot of rules in my head to sift through with.
=====
 I use basic mainstream only. Reuters or AP or basic outlets that are common.I do because it’s widespread and it’s not hard to pick out “This is just gossip” from “This is a fact of an event” from “This is speculation / fiction”.
====
 For fact-y facts, I read a lot of scientific journal stuff about what interests me.I’m still piecing together what I think is true about how things work.I keep an eye on extremes so that I know where I’m at.I see a lot of “undertow”, current flows trying to drag me down and I know how much I can swim and when I gotta go to shore. I have practical limits of my abilities. I don’t like it but they’re real.
=====
 Oh by extremes I mean *my* extremes .
=====
 How I’m plotted on a “chart of political / opinion / etc” extremes is fun but that just says what others might say “about” me.
====
  Probably :) I’m probably ADHD, possibly Aspergers. Not sure. I definitely lean towards manic over depressive.Thing is, I don’t know what’s best for the world. But I can work on my own things.

=====
 Exactly. They may have the money and lands and titles but I’ll only respect them if they’re actually decent people.
=====
I don’t even mind a *bit* of their individualism, greed, and consumption. I expect it from their class.

But I also expect, if they’re in positions of power, to at least not be wholly evil.
