Having been raised with this as “normal”, I don’t even usually mind if they’re some kind of reasonable about it. I expect the top to keep and gain power. But in return, I expect them to give back in some measure that makes being a citizen not too awful.
But when they fall outside of the range of “reasonable extortion”, it’s a strong reminder just how unjust the entire system really is.
If you’ll accept anything that’s referred to as a solution without questioning, “is a correct method?”, that’s kind of blind man.
Whatever government or corporations want to do is A-OK as long as I don’t have to think about it.
If you read what I wrote to my high school Spanish teacher there, I talk about just that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoliberalism
It’s fine within boundaries.
You simply allow them more freedom than I do
And… because this crosses over a line that I see but you don’t see, I’m calling it out.
Also, by them crossing over the line, I’m reminded just how screwed up it all really is.
so maybe it’s good they are being stupid enough to get noticed now.
Money is getting siphoned from tax payers into private hands without accountability. Literally. No books. What books? Need a court order to look at the books. Not transparent. Bad business. Bad for government. Bad for whatever they are doing.
I wonder if I can house lawbreakers and get paid for it without having to show basic human rights aren’t violated daily.
Oh, I can? Awesome! AND they can work for me for FREE?
Awesome. Sign me up.
Full accountability. Same accountability requirements as public institutions.
That’s it. If it’s performing the same function, they gotta follow the same rules.
No such thing as a free lunch.
The problem goes invisible.
“Joe’s the hero!”
But did he solve the problem or hide it and say it was solved?
That’s the problem.
Some things don’t belong in the company store.
But, I’m glad we’re both not huge fans of the neoliberal model. I don’t see it going away, which is why I do the callouts like this.
But ultimately is there probably a better way? I’m sure. But it won’t be the kind of simple thing that we could imagine in a two paragraph FB comment.
