In data modeling there are a number of alternative models to hierarchical. I’ve personally always found hierarchical models to be extremely limiting although a quick hierarchy in an outline can sometimes be useful for quickly sorting.

If modelling a society, there’s any number of ways to represent the data.

What would be the best model for the future of civilization? I dunno. But it’s interesting just the same.
