had deeply bothered me for a long time. LISTENING COMPREHENSION
A few years ago I realized that “I have a problem with inferring and generalizing” which might be one reason for that ‘guessing range’.
But more specifically, I would see choices and see equally valid possibilities for interpreting even the shortest of texts. Ok, I don’t think like I’m supposed to – I get that. But is that a cognitive flaw?
So, now I can see that this type of testing is an artifact of “close reading” which is useful for the schools to test “norms” in interpretation. But I was cheated by the lack of recognition that “this means something here”. [because I always scored in that zone for that aspect for exactly the same reason] so if I’d had testing that was either more “reader response criticism” or some kind of hybrid such as sociological, situated, – just… a smidgen of more context to fill in the story of the author and their backgrounds so I could know their thinking processes better — THEN maybe I’d have gotten adequate scores in that area.
