Growing up I had trouble with concepts such as “faith” and “belief”; I’m kind of a “go/no-go”, and while I understand wishing and wanting and hoping, words like faith and belief rang hollow, usually the ones using the words a little too frequently and for very selfish motivations. But the notion of theosis or deification, the medicinal view, well, it ‘clicked’. Notions such as Christ as the template, even the importance of getting right how one perceives the nature of Christ, Thomas, the transfiguration — and birth — well, it was all very logical with theosis. Without it, it was a vague “god is big bully and you must listen or else” or it was “christ is buddy pal” and both seemed a little vacuous. I’ve asked myself : why did the ancients take this SO SERIOUSLY? That is, why the big fight over Christology? Well, if for you it is a basic scientific fact that we’re living with broken templates and that the resurrection process is very painful for those who don’t walk with Christ (use Christ as proper template) – like an extreme burning, worms under the skin, as if being burned in a pain without end — well, it’s very crucial to get it right, particularly if you’re going to apply it to large amount of people. The Councils were, at least at first, Physician conferences discussing a worldwide epidemic and discussing the best way to remedy the situation.
