Greater training and division of labor. Yes, you have abolitionists, just like you have January 6th people who wanted to destroy the Capitol building or whatever. But they aren’t the majority are they? No. Defund the police is “unbundling” police services. They CAN’T handle all of those things all at once. Lawyer? Strong arm? Mental health counsellor? De-escalation? Interpreter? yes it’s perfectly possible to increase education for police and unbundle their services for better community service. It’s not that they’re lacking funding. It’s where the funding GOES.
