I remember Challenger because it was on my birthday. 14th birthday. I was home from school. Total space nut nerd geek. Watched it go up…. watched it go boom. Next morning in homeroom, the jokes already started. This was pre-Internet.
Good teacher though: She said, “You’ll forget all of the names except Christie Macauliff”. We were learning about Crispus Attix / Boston Massacre at the time – so good teaching to tie it together.
We were like, “No, we’ll remember Captain John…” um… well, I forgot everybody else. So yeah, she was right
