Get a cheap hand steamer (we ended up getting a cheap “floor steamer for hardwood floors” and just took off the pad and use it on the carpet because the hand steamer worked so well. Nearly everything tiny dies at 212 degrees F / 100 degrees C, so it can’t hurt.

Might be dust mites. used to get them up north in NJ in the winter. Also, I always felt as if the drier air was leaving little microcracks in my lungs that dust mites were caking up into like stucco, causing histimines in my body to go bezerk… I think there’s a layer of lung skin under the top layer and it felt as if these suckers (or the white blood cellls fighting them) were getting clogged up in there, and I’d spent 1/2 the winter hacking up white shit.

Sometimes claritin / benedryl / zyrtec would help, sometimes not.

Never knew what the cause really was though.

maybe you could get a thin piece of filter paper/weave behind the grate somehow so the air has to push through the filter first before entering the living space but I don’t know your layout.

dampdry microfiber cloth really works well for picking up the tiniest of things. Lots of little tiny weaves for the stuff to get stuck in. Love those things.

I go for stopgaps myself. Whenever I shoot for ultimate-solutions it ends up taking me longer than my already over-estimated estimates (multiply x 3) and they get impatient and crabby.

My high ideals are continually slain on the altar of ‘other people, who are often noisy’.

Its great when ppl listen. I’ve got ‘nerd privilege” (glasses and a beard make me an expert at everything, even when I’m not). Even when I’m right, thought, it’s not always enough. Nerd privilege works against me too because I become the Magician who shows up in a room to ask, “Show me the problem you have” and it suddenly works.

So, they expect that magic always.

Someday they’ll have dust-mite eating nano stuff that you release at any point in the system, blow them in, and let them do their job. Then you’d have to flush them out somehow. They’d be bigger particles to deal with, so allergies wouldn’t be an issue.

But we’re far from that stuff yet.

[it’d be similar to metal sequestering in water. I dunno.. I get weird ideas like that]
