George W Bush enacted “No Child Left Behind” which was an attempt at centralization through rigorous testing but despite numerous attempts, it was finally abandoned by Barack Obama after the Common Core, which was the final attempt to save Bush’s “No Child Left Behind” programme.

It was its aggression and intrusion that was an issue. Similar to the current administration’s attempt to nationalize and central control of everything, it brushes aside individual state’s unique needs.
Were I King of Education, I’d mandate minimally intrusive standards that are continually adjusted to community needs, allowing for a maximum of the kinds of variations that do not negatively impact “basic knowledge” acquisition.
