Generally, people are not put into positions by performance UNLESS the system they’re working within ‘rewards’ you for doing so. For example, schools may reward you with grades. It’s set up that way. Corporations may increase you pay if you follow certain duties if it’s arranged that way. Kiss the right asses in networking and maybe you’ll be placed in a higher position by a gatekeeper who allows you passage. But it’s not “what comes from within” there. It’s what system are you attempting to climb up within.

There’s nothing natural about most pecking orders. They’re just about the most fake, artificial human construction there is. The more people believe it’s true, the more it functions as if it’s true. But it’s still not true.
