Functionally the same though. I mean, most people didn’t really care-care about his craziness: it was just gossip and consumer choice as it is, some chose to not bother with him again. But I think it was mostly gossip and most cancel culture is, ultimately, gossip. A celebrity that never has the wherewithall to recover from “cancel culture” would surprise me as it’s functionally it’s no worse than a bad review that causes a few lost gigs and some quiet time.
