France and Facebook are cooperating too. International corporations of whatever nature end up working with nations. Big Tech is continuation.
As far as bias goes, it’s been an ongoing issue in human imaging, particular medical imaging for a long time now.
I’ve worked with medical imaging software testing some of this and it really isn’t easy balancing out algorithms for skin pigmentations.
MIT just did it successfully and it’s a breakthrough. Equitable testing of breast cancer for both light AND dark-skinned patients. Prior, well, the medical imaging just didn’t work all that well on dark-skinned patients.
That dirty lil issue of medical imaging (x-rays, CT scans, etc) is just not talked about much. Imaging techs have done their best over the last decades of imaging but fact is, if you’re dark skinned, medical imaging just doesn’t work as well on you.
But it’s about to work better, so that’s a good thing.
