For many I’m friends with, I’m the token liberal, the SJW, the Progressive, the Communist / Socialist / etc. I’m accustomed. Sometimes I get heard as myself and sometimes I represent “opposing team”. It’s not how I want it to go but it occasionally does.
that’s what they tell me. It’s all sports to me and I don’t ‘get’ team sports either.
I don’t trust groups of 3 or more who are in solidarity. They sound weird to me, as if a new person forms between them.
Didn’t understand it as a kid, don’t understand it in middle age.
I studied it but it doesn’t “click”.
Until 2014, I thought I was politically center. Took a test. I was shocked that I wasn’t. Never declared a party or allegiance.
I’ve voted Repubican, Democrat, Independent. It’s a civic duty and I usually remember.
Hidden Tribes of America though was the most enlightening test.
Called me a “Progressive Activist”.
I didn’t like that. But, its profile was maybe 80% me. Couldn’t argue against it really.
So whatever supposed “pull” tribes are supposed to have, skipped right past me.
I didn’t ask for it. Just how it is.
What do you get out of having a sense of tribe?
I’m called “left” so I suppose I am. I actually score “low or no empathy” on empathy quotient tests.
I get frustrated when I’m misunderstood, when I say 2+2=4 and I hear back, “you mean apple, right?” So if frustration is an emotion, by all means.
Thank you Keith. You found it.
I’m low on Oxytocin, which = low on empathy which = low on tribalism.
That means you’re probably high on “emotional support seeking” behavior and politics and I’m low on it.
Thank you. I guess I _am_ a logical Mr. Spock after all.
So tribes seek emotional support from each other, a “cuddling” instinct that I lack. I guess I’m heartless and cold
