First new real big-8 newsgroup was voted on and approved in October, 2021 for the gemini protocol – replacement for gopher text protocol which is gaining its own traction I just happened to be looking at Usenet (ended up finding XNews which still works in Win10 – and perfectly) – and used the text-only newsgroup server at aoie to pull it in and Newsgroups: comp.infosystems.gemini was voted on and approved, after the standard 5 day waiting period by the THREE members of the big-8 newsgroup approval board. First new newsgroup [of the real democratic kind] in forever. [then again, I haven’t used usenet in forever but the people in the new group were saying the last one they knew of was in 2013]
