I mean there’s stretches of the imagination possible for each of them:
Swimming – fastest time: First body through makes a Hole in Time that the others follow. Takes some poetic license, then again, it takes even some imagination to see a hockey puck as a ball, although less.

Well I wouldn’t say _meaninglessness_ – my brain is always always in this realm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topology since I first heard about it in college – 1990 or so – and spacetime is easily included there.
But yeah, for practical, “back to planet Earth” purposes, I think you’re right: Outside of outliers like synchronized swimming (which could be considered “clone sport” as are things in “pairs”, Team Sports seems to fit the model of an “ball in the hole” idea, by morphing the ball and the hole but otherwise quite compatible.
