ell i was being a bit sarcastic tbh – I’m way off on the left and personally I don’t have any problem with the song – but the video was over the top in obvious symbolism and all the “oops, didn’t mean it that way in the song” is plausible but the video’s kinda trash and intentionally divisive. But it’s for promotions sake; knowing full well what those images will provoke – and they did. I’m a child of the 80s and there’s rarely accidents in music video symbolism; they’re too damn expensive for that. So in effect, whether one likes it or finds fault, all of this discussion is an indication that we must all like promoting it because that’s all it does.
