During my religious questing, my stay with the Eastern Orthodox was my favorite. Started in 1994 after finding this weird religion called “Eastern Orthodox” I never heard of in the Yellow Pages while working at a Roman Catholic university as a temp on my lunch break as “data entry” and called from there and the WIFE answered (wife?) and said that FATHER was out BLESSING HOUSES right now (it was January).
Well, that intrigued me. I’d been reading the “new catechism of the catholic church” which came out in 1992 – on my second reading and on the verge of going Catholic because I liked the look of curiosity and fear in the priests-in-training at Seton Hall and I wanted to join in.
Found a group ONLINE (as primitive as the internet was in 1994) and learned most things from the thousands on there yapping away. Did a little monastery time too.
Moved on with Osho in 2001 for a year or so but I loved my time with the Orthodox and theologically they got it nailed. Essence vs Energies? Panentheism? Yeah, I’m there. If I believed something, that’s what it’d be.
