Different ages different stages.

Different ages different stages. I like the lefthand you because of the awkward uncertain potential. The righthand you is after you set a course and are pursuing it. Both are necessary parts of life I think. I chose same course – found I gained muscle easily so I had fun with it. Found out you can actually keep it (middle age stage here now) so long as you keep reasonable protein up.and occasionally challenge yourself with a wall pushup now and again.

At around left hand side boy’s age, ordered “Charles Atlas” from the back of a Boy Scout magazine. Followed it religiously, the weekly photocopies that showed up. It worked. Did some gym too but biggest gains were from “Dynamic Tension” and the kind of obsessiveness only puberty + a touch of socially acceptable body dysmorphia can bring. No regrets either.

No need for sad. Enjoy it. Play around with diet and exercise, see what works. My 2nd biggest obsessive time was age 30. Decided to match the height/weight charts, supposedly 180 lbs @ 6′ lol.

Got down to 3% body fat. Was cold all the time. Got down to 190 at lowest, never could bust through. Felt less sick at 195. Settled at 215 for healthy-low for me and I’ve been hovering from 215-250 (at laziest) back and forth since. Current extra bulk I could lose in about six months if I put 1/2 a mind to it. Don’t care at the moment but if I get a wild hair I’ll do it again.

Jeez, yeah, never went that route. I’d worry about kidney failure at those rates. Max I did for protein was 150/day, 2400 cal. But I have a body type that gains muscle (and fat) easily, so bulking up wasn’t my issue. Everybody’s got different needs to match whatever mental template they want to achieve.

My maintenance for muscle/strength has been 50-100 protein a day. 50 is danger-zone low, 80-100 seems my ideal. I watch useless carb intake, try to avoid the white flour/sugar when possible. Found out 100% whole wheat works (I get no bubble) for bread. Found my body doesn’t like soy but loves whey. Found standard zinc+magnesium supplement every few days helps general body repair. If i have shit fat, I have some good fat that day too. Addicted to non-dairy creamer for coffee so I’m doomed anyway. But it’s fun.

yeah. zinc leads to testosterone in the body systems. Just take standard daily. Too much and you get tingling in your fingers and toes and it’s a little scary. Side effect: horny as hell. I drink a lot of coffee which has copper. Copper leads to estrogen in the body systems, so the zinc counteracts that. Vitamin C and Zinc access the same systems so I don’t have them together as they fight. Used to do zinc+mag daily with b12 too. One day ran out of b12, found out I didn’t need it. Then found out I don’t need zinc + mag daily or else I’m a 13 yr old with wet dreams again which I don’t want.

[zinc boost immunity, being white feeds all the ‘white liquid’ stuff in the body, whether white blood cells or sperm I guess – that’s how I see it anyway. Magnesium relaxes blood vessels, allowing more blood flow. Mag counteracts too much calcium. Calcium constricts blood vessels. Too much calcium without magnesium and people get sudden death heart attacks. [hence high blood pressure people take “calcium channel blockers”. Meh, I could go on. I get obsessed with nutrition now and again].

ooh, get ready for headaches if you do. Body’s probably used to it. Good luck in any case – and seriously enjoy the experimenting. Loved all my mistakes as well as successes. Once overloaded on too many B vitamins. Face kept getting red and hot randomly. Traced it back to “Niacin Flash”. Once messed with Creatine. Gave muscle definition but then I was thirsty and sickish all the time so I stopped. But glad I tried these things. Spent a year on pseudoephedrine. Loved the energy. Messed with Atkins, extreme low calorie, diet confusion (do one thing 6 day a week, do the complete opposite on the 7th day)… all fun, mostly not deadly.

I liked keto – done it probably six times so far (mid 90s, early 00s, mid 00s, early 10s, – every few years). – my body loves protein but if I go too far I get foggy headed for a few days. Zinc+Mag at night after a workout speeds recovery. That’s how I first learned about the combo: some body building forum a dozen years ago or so. THEN I saw the same combo in a “help your kid with autism” forum so I knew there was _some_ magic there somehow and there is.

man you’re inspiring me. Now I’m thinking of starting up again. We just got through 6 days w/out electricity/internet here (Hurricane Irma eye went over my house) so I’m in babble mode.

20% closer to whatever normal was – just glad to have AC, getting swampy clothes worn 4x washed right now, looking at a branch that is poking through my porch roof that I have to fix sometime this week but doing ok.
