Did ancient Romans have a moral “duty of care” towards their slaves? That’s news to me. What I mean is: with every convenience technology, you have fewer decisions to make because they’re made for you. It’s a tradeoff; you don’t notice you have fewer choices because the technology chooses those things for you. But in exchange, you can build upon it into new areas which give you different choices you can make, expanding your freedoms.
