Creating a functioning facsimile of our apparent mind functions in the computer wouldn’t surprise me. but it will be top down not bottom up.

Creating a functioning facsimile of our apparent mind functions in the computer wouldn’t surprise me.

but it will be top down not bottom up.

based on the external ghostly apparition of functions that we believe we’ve mapped out correctly, it’s far simpler to mimic external behavior and creating novel underlying systems that support it.

this is how the amazing blossoming of ai is possible since 2009 ish:

ground truth.

they start with a premade model and then they work to mimick the apparence of that model in form or apparent functions.

but form is external to internal.

function is process but there’s no obligation that a function uses the same underlying mechanisms.

so it will not be a physics based copy of the human mind but a top down apparition which is amazing but it is not built from the physics of the brain on up

this is where ontological pluralism comes in.

you can have two identically functioning minds : one biology and one computer.

but when you look at how they are constructed it will be of a different basis.
