Create file, stick stuff in it, Close file. It’s a surprisingly powerful thing.

PS – what I wrote is a really simple program. But I’m excited because it gives me .EXE control over Excel.  Excel my favorite environment for storing lots of data that means something to me.  I don’t like databases unless I must use them. With this core capability and knowing how to use it, it means I could take anything that fits and stick it anywhere in Excel.  I could download a website, get rid of the fluffy formatting codes, keep only the relevant parts of the page that I want, and have it stuck in an Excel spreadsheet without me having to lift a finger.

Instead of Excel, it could be another program with an exposed API; I’d just have to learn their rules.

Create file, stick stuff in it, Close file.

It’s a surprisingly powerful thing.

I could use Imagemagick and have each line typed automatically create Internet Meme posters, have it download the first Google Image it finds matching the words I wrote, download it, stick the words on top of it, and save it – or publish it (which is saving) to some online service.

It’d be a few more steps, but not many.  Stuff like that.
