Controlling how you FEEL _can_ be useful in some situations. But not all situations are about feelings. Often, abused children learn to put up with just about anything life throws at them and survive. They aren’t victims – they’re survivors, etc. But their reaction does not make their abuse ok. Thinking of the future is not a bad thing. You look for rectification not for yourself but so that future people do not have to be abused, unless cycles-of-abuse are some kind of tradition that needs maintaining for some reason.
