controlled is an interesting point. There are many ways to control messages of media. Movements for example; when people are enthusiastic about a topic, they will mimic the talking points of the leaders of the movement and believe them to be their own opinions.

I’ve done things to mitigate this a little; knowing I can’t remove it nor should I — in April 2013, I decided to stop watching movies and TV. Just for a few months. 9 years went by.
I’ve seen about 9-10 movies (I just tracked them down today for another discussion online and can give a list) in that time period, and I only watch TV with other people on occasion, and Dr Who the rare times there’s an episode.
I’m not AGAINST TV and movies; it was just a personal challenge to ‘clear my head’ as much as I could; focusing on non-fiction as much as such a thing exists.
I’d already done that with fiction reading; last fiction book I read was something about the Catholic church and Opus Dei and conspiracy – it had really short chapters and was a popular read at the time; they made a movie with a famous person.
Yet, I like hearing ABOUT stories from people who enjoyed them; I like hearing stories from their points of view, with people I can engage with in 2 way communication

I don’t think I’ve really gained any insight in NOT watching the “rise of the streamers” and netflix series; but it did free up time.
People would look at me sideways because I _wasn’t_ watching the latest great show or movie but I know eventually I probably will.
