Childhood selves needing rescuing:
“He suffered from polio at the age of two and was treated at the Warm Spring Institute for which his family had to spend a substantial sum of money. ”
“He enlisted in the US Army Reserve at Louisville, Kentucky, in March 1967 and had to be discharged on medical grounds after five weeks of training at Fort Knox due to optic neuritis in August 1967.”
optic neuritis is usually an early sign of MS. Symptoms can usually be fixed quickly even in 1967 by steroids.
Rumors of covering a dishonorable discharge “A new member of the 100th Army Reserve Unit in Basic Training at Ft. Knox was arrested in the barracks for sodomy. The guy is getting out of the military and the excuse will be due to an illness, an eye disorder. The Major then told a joke about it saying, “I guess the guy couldn’t see the difference between guys and girls.”
might explain a hard-turn to the political right and the need to wipe out others’ sexual proclivities (in order to keep his own safe) but regardless, I hope Mitch McConnell takes a long time off and finds out whatever’s bugging his inner Mitch.
