Car’s as conscious as the driver. Is the Universe as conscious as humans? What makes us so special to be above the whole Universe? Or are we automatons to physics like we tend to see the Universe?
I could go with animism, tools are an extension of us, or it’s all gears. Or consciousness is platonic. Need coffee..
Systems functioning as systems is a form of consciousness as “functioning whole while functioning” is beyond pile of parts and beyond a car that’s not being used as a car. Systemic Functionalist? I dunno.
Newton’s original concept of impetus / inertia was both inner driven AND outer driven.
The inner driven version got dropped 100 yrs later but not by him.
All healers (docs etc) do is provide optimum conditions for the body to heal itself. This is no different.
The thing I respected about Hitchens over those that came after is his openness to agnostics.
Now, I never identified in his camp of agnostic so being included by him annoyed me, but it was still a far better approach than attempts by others to “purify” atheism.
Not precisely me but I am careful who I’m willing to be aligned with.
While he came to his conclusions from “the other side” than me, I was surprised at how well aligned Pigliucci is to me.
