Oh, that would be handy. I didn’t know Chomsky was so anti-environment. I knew Pinker, his protoge was/is. But, I definitely believe environment is crucial.
This is more in the realm of meaning — almost an anti-Chomskian view really.
a) I started looking tonight at word2vec again, trying to see if it would be useful and why I didn’t care for it.
b) I realized what it’s doing is taking a higher dimensionality and mapping it down to a single variable, a single vector.
c) that’s monotonic, too simple. Useful for many things but not what I wanted.
d) So I looked at other ways a word could be related to another or other words. “how many ways”. That would include word2vec as one possibility, but also parts of speech, metaphorical connections,
e) The big “woah” moment was asking myself “what does a hyperlink to?” it connects two distant documents based on a word. You can connect any words or concepts by hyperlinks.
THEN I realized:
f) What is it you do in a sentence? You connect words together. How many ways can you connect words together? A lot.
So, the ultimate in relating multiple words together is a tool we use daily already. Putting together sentences. Everyday magic wins.
