Hello, Mereology, Philosophy and Aggregates. Hi Whitehead, been meaning to meet you for a while.

[set theory always bothered me because it seemed too simple. I mean you can do a LOT with it : provably nearly all of mathematics and THAT’S done amazing things. But it’s the loss of .. I dunno, uniqueness? identity? Completeness? I dunno. Maybe it’s completeness.

Like, you’ve got a deck of cards right? Cardboard with numbers and letters and picture on them. So, a [set] of 52 cardboard things we call cards = deck of cards yeah?

But then, there’s four suits. Ok. So, now you have a [set] of 4 suits. So does that mean you have 4 cardboard things? Nope.

Shit.

What now?

Loss of other properties as well. How fun is it to play cards? Where’s the [set] of that?

Nowadays, we’d have classes (object oriented programming) where properties would get inherited to the members of the class. Something like that. I don’t know if I’m using the language right but I ‘get’ the concepts.

But even there, is it enough? What about things that can’t be numerated? Continuums for example. Ok you have infinities. But that’s all theoretical stuff. What about here? There’s continuous surfaces that don’t give well to being quantified.

I barely know what I’m talking about but I’ve always found a few things irksome about mathematics, particularly how they drop variables SO easily.

[I learned to program on my own (age 11) before Pre-Algebra and the teacher got mad at me when I was keeping track of cancelled variables on the side of the paper. She thought I was nuts. I thought she was nuts for making them magically disappear].

Anyway, I’m hoping this will be the missing piece.
