By default, we’re dead. We participate actively in living by not doing things that would kill us.
You’re actively engaged whether you are conscious of it at present or not.
At one time you were conscious of it.
If a newborn baby is just standing there doing nothing, it’s not standing there doing nothing. It takes effort and work to learn.
You’ve learned it. GREAT! Now you don’t have to think about it.
But you did at one time. You’re taking the “now” as “forever” ontologically but it’s not. You can’t compare “you now” to “rock now” in the same way as you’re in a process from death to death with learning inbetween.
I didn’t imply intentionality. I’m saying I can’t compare the rock to myself.
Statistically, I’m dead.
But I’m not.
Statistically the rock is dead.
The rock is dead.
