But who the heck isn’t hypocritical in some fashion? This “I’m immune from being a hypocrite because ‘I’ speak The Truth” is ridiculous.

This is why it seems old to me. I’m 46. At 17, I saw this article and it sold me on the very liberal college I went to (but couldn’t finish due to $$)

JBP’s attitude is right in here among balking students, 28 yrs ago:

—-
”Sometimes it’s hard to be a heterosexual male here,” said Halstead York, who was having breakfast in the dining hall with his friends Jeri Chittick, Rebecca Drury and Elizabeth Rosenthal.

”Students are trying so hard to be open-minded they’re close-minded,” said Jeri.

and I made fun too of hypocritical tolerance when it was really masked intolerance.

But who the heck isn’t hypocritical in some fashion? This “I’m immune from being a hypocrite because ‘I’ speak The Truth” is ridiculous.

I dunno. I don’t pay THAT much attn to Canadian politics. But I pay attn a little to JBP because he’s embraced by a lot of toxic people I know, as well as not-so-toxic people who are starting to get their torches ablaze. That’s why I speak up.

====

My point is, people exactly like jbp have been bitching and moaning about colleges – a small period of life between age 18-22 approximately – as if it’s the DOWNFALL OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION – and doing my whole adult life.

So maybe this is new to a lot of people and radical, but this complaining is old to me.

====

There’s trade schools and also more practical colleges. Also, not all liberal arts are like Hampshire College. Hampshire is like THE EXTREME.

We had safe spaces 28 yrs ago in 1990.
Neutral bathrooms.
PC was considered a form of diplomacy not censorship, although nobody called it PC back then EXCEPT for snide newspaper writers who mocked it all, just like today.

I’m from NJ, which considers all this BS.

  lol you don’t remember 90s boot camps, adolescent treatment centers and “tough love”? 90s was a shit time for a kid to grow up in.
====
  I don’t watch too much TV. I watched control-freak parenting become the style. Keep kids indoors because the world is unsafe. Shit got worse after 9/11.But I think there’s been a lot of loosening up over the last 10 yrs or so, esp as a new generation is online.
====
  I knew little brothers + sisters and cousins of friends of mine get sent to them and come back damaged.It was the “suburban mom” solution.

Why would they want to go to foster care? Foster care sucks as it always did.

  and yes, the world isn’t any more or less dangerous mostly. But it depends. If I was a black or hispanic kid in a low to middle income neighborhood in the USA, it’s even less safe.Growing anti non-WASP sentiment among WASPs in the USA among adults with firearms makes it harder to not be WASP in the USA.As far as kids being taught to love the state, nationalism programming isn’t anything new. But if anything, it works less on current kids than in the past, not more.

  Dude, he’s playing the media. President of media dept at his high school, obsssesed with it long before the shooting, he knew JUST what buttons to push.
====
  No. Standard confederates who always wanted a new civil war since the civil war want a civil war as they ALWAYS want a civil war. Nothing new.
——
  NRA’s been playing gun owners for suckers since 1977, pumping up fear to drive up sales. Was better before the takeover probably, although I was too little then to know anything about it.
====
  Local communities have enacted local gun control measures for as long as there have been local communities.2ndA is fine but you’d think everybody wants to melt down your guns. Can’t even ban a useless item like a bump stock without “you’re turning us into Australia”
=====
  First off, “the left” is anarchists and they got no problem with guns. You’re talking about liberal/moderate which is center left to center right authoritarian.
=====
  I don’t know why you need to peg me into a bucket. In this conversation, I’m maoist, then lefist, then liberal, then radical centrist, then Bernie bro …
====
  I didn’t join the primaries. I’ve never been a democrat.
=====
  I just think JBP is full of shit. Earnest but full of shit.
====
 All this guessing like a Senate hearing and you could just ask me.
====
 You need me to play for “the other team” because I find JBP to be a bit of an earnest blowhard so you keep guessing my team.
====
I’m *not* identifying yet you keep trying to establish one for me.
====
  Nah Jason. World’s way more complicated than that.
====
  I’m a pragmatist more than idealist. Politics is generally boring to me. Death and taxes come to us all etc. It got sort of interesting with yahoo running for prez 3rd time and actually sliding in (barely, although we were due for a “Daddy” after a “Mommy” – that’s our cycles), so I’ve been paying some attention.
====
  Don’t know him. But I’m not much for politics. Maybe pragmatism is the wrong word. I just know if I see a problem, I try to find a diplomatic solution. Nobody walks away giddy but nobody walks away crying either, just grumbling.
====
  Ah you’re going back 110 yrs for stuff. I’m not a full on instrumentalist or utilitarian, nor a full post modernist, although I understand intersectionality and its importance, so go ahead and give me an Identity like “Identitarian” or something if that makes you happy, if ridiculous.Nah, too pragmatic is not good ’cause then you end up with China and their shit human rights.

====
  Another corner. As you can see, I’m definitely into the Progressive camp (no shock there) but I’m “conflicted or neutral” about 1/3 of Conservatism.

I’m definitely not neutral so for me it’s that I haven’t yet concluded in areas that Conservatism may have correct as it may not.

I don’t have ANY heroes in politics. None. Zero. But it was high time I figured out where the heck I really stand on things so a few years ago I started working on it. This test is the latest iteration and probably the closest to true I’ve found yet.
