There’s likely something going on as I’ve been hearing about it for some time. Back in the 90s I wrote a few pieces about the needs of boys in education and society support that, if not addressed properly might lead to a generation of people who don’t know who there are and where they stand except by referencing those they’re not.
I was loosely connected to what they now call the “mythopoetical men’s right movement”. I never got that deeply into it but I believed and still believe that generating a proper esteem for one’s own existence is crucial for a sense of well being.
But what I don’t fully understand fully is the sports-like nature that’s developed over the past 15 years. It seemed to get a huge boost around 2009/2010 during some video game controversy that seemed to grip a portion of a generation and has skyrocketed from there, morphing into other issues and becoming somewhat of a social problem in itself rather than a social solution.
I know society has moved away from individualism.
People are more likely to think in “teams”. Root for this team. Boo for that team.
But it still seems strange.
