But the same “If It’s Science, It’s Undeniable Fact” remains in the minds of true believers through adulthood; a left-over impression from school days.

You’re my “hero of the night”. I look for those on threads.
I think part of the problem starts in school; that of associating “certainty” with “science”.

We’re taught (through our crappy textbooks; undoubtedly a worldwide problem no matter what schooling system) about Science as if it’s Fact A, Fact B, Face C, etc. It’s taught of as self-evident. It “is what it is, accept it or we’ll laugh at you”.

Then we get through school.

But the same “If It’s Science, It’s Undeniable Fact” remains in the minds of true believers through adulthood; a left-over impression from school days.

I’m not talking about the sciences themselves; but rather the fangirls of Science, littering the Internet, making the sciences look ridiculously cocky and arrogant. The humility of science is built-into the system… with the possible except of Theoretical Physics… cockiness is built-into theoretical physics tongue emoticon

[I love it, but it’s fodder for the imagination. It’s not really science per se, not as much as being used as a promotional tool for interest in science among kids and adults]. The movement to split off the requirement of evidence, duplication of results and all that stuff that makes science what it is from Theoretical Physics is gonna turn it into Philosophy, which is good for Ernest Leonardo Meyer – they’ll clog up your dept if they succeed smile emoticon
