Oh in my case, my right eye has a retina problem. Too much oxygen, not fully developed – I forget honestly. It’s like having a bad chip. Nothing to be done with 2015 technology 😛
Once I tried to see in 3D. I got a book on how. Played with the exercises.
Went to a specialist *just* to make sure everything I was doing was fine.
[I REALLY wondered if I was missing something]
Anyway, he had me do this test. Red light has to match the green light. Big ancient machine just to spit out two lights in my eyes.
Anyway, the red and green lights FLIPPED when they were supposed to merge. I was like, “Hey, they flipped sides suddenly!”
Bzzzzwrrmmmmm… the machine gets shut down.
He says to me, embarassingly, as if I was a little kid (I was 26 or so), NO MORE PLAYING WITH YOUR VISION. LEAVE IT ALONE! YOU’RE GOING TO GET DOUBLE VISION IF YOU KEEP IT UP.
After recouperating from the firm voice, I said, “Well, why?”
Then he spoke regularly. He said I don’t have cells capable of rendering 3D. They’re all 2D cells.
Anyway, I listened. I can IMAGINE what 3D might be like and can make it happen a *little* if I position my eyes just right. But one of them is aversive to joining the other and goes the other way when I try, except with effort. For a moment, things near me can POP OUT suddenly.
But since then, I’ve trained my imagination to fill in the gap.
2D isnt like the world is a photograph though. I see and feel perspective and closeness with shadows and light sources and things. So,I have something that works for me.
Is it the same as other people’s 3D? Probably not. But – it’s what I know and it works for me.
