Crowds usually boo when you want them to boo, cheer when you want them to cheer. So none of that surprises me.
But man, messing with the Boy Scouts? Dude wasn’t even a Boy Scout himself. Of course the BSA extends the invitation to speak whoever is the sitting President but they’re already regretting it this time.
I was in a small but friendly Boy Scout troop. But I knew of other troops that were more war-like and when I went to a big Boy Scout convention (not this one but I don’t remember which), meeting Scouts from the deep south was a bit of a shocker to me as they were talking proudly about Civil War stuff and lots of things I’d never have expected from Scouts… but again, I was in a troop with decent enough leaders and decent enough kids in it.
In any case, he successfully made the Boy Scouts of America look bad. This is Reuters which attempts to be as balanced as possible. But the headlines from other outlets tell a more colorful tale both left and right. I don’t want to give extra voice to any of that stuff but I’m tempted. Using this as a opportunity to be a political platform was simply gross. Not unexpected. But gross.
