Book gets written. Movie gets made. Ideas spread. Like-mindeds come together. Bounce off each other in self-reinforcing waves, forming a separate way of thinking from surrounding culture.
Like-mindeds enter surrounding culture. Try to actualize what they already believe is true. Surprised at pushback and failure. Yet, some ideas stay in surrounding culture in some form.
New like-mindeds are born. They discover old text. They find elders. Process continues with generational support.
Meanwhile surrounding culture changes slightly with each iteration.
But does it meet the ideals from the book or movie?
It may. But as “we’re separate from surrounding culture” has become a part of the subculture’s identity, they might not notice how far they’ve come and continue seeking the last digit of pi.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing so long as there are various opposition forces from different angles… plus the in-fighting which is inevitable.
In another group, this JUST happened, similar to OP but different angle::
The other OP wrote: “Fascism and Nazism will never re-establish themselves in Europe, much less take root in the US. All claims to the contrary are alarmist/hysterical exaggerations”
” It’s about as likely as a Jordan B Peterson fan club having any real impact on society.”
His reply, a JBP fan but who has a sense of humor?
” Burn! ”
He’s your guru and immune to joking or criticism. That’s fine. I’m sure he’s going to bring forth a revolution that will save Western Civilization From Itself.
You like what he says. I get it. It bothers you when anybody criticizes him. I get it. I’ll try to avoid that in the future so you can be at peace.
Yet you poured link after link here. Do you see why I’m concerned you might be too deep into him? I won’t get through. I realize that.
That makes a little more sense and thank you for the correction. Still, I’ll stop bringing him up and focus on other things. We had a school shooting only 100 miles east of me today and it’s got more of my attention now. Can’t get the screams out of my head nor do I want to yet. Growing callous is too easy a trap.
It’s an unknown at the moment so there’s no harm in going with what you like.
A similar idea I once liked a lot involved gravity being weak yet long distance because the source is one dimension / parallel removed from us, superimposed but distant enough to account for it.
Similar in that I know it’s likely hogwash, right alongside standing waves-for-particles (another idea I sometimes like)… but it’s a mostly harmless bit of fantasy.
