Being raised with it around me (New Jersey govt, business and mafia were all mixed together), I saw it as normal. Wrong but normal. Yet, I couldn’t see it as any other way. it’s “just how it is”. It’s taken – and is taking – a long time to really ‘see’ in such a way that I can be rightfully angry about it. Rather than seeing as “normal and there is no other way to do things, as bad as it is”, now I can see there are better ways and none of the excuses for being this way are valid.
