Being in the USA, the phrase “duty of care” was unknown to me for my whole life until a Doctor Who episode I saw in the past year. He used the phrase “duty of care” and I had to look it up. What is that? It actually blew my mind that such a concept existed like that. I knew it by other names but it was more vague. Responsibility. Respect. Civility. Love. All good but vague. Duty of care is a perfect concept to express this. Why is not an American phrase? That’s a good question indeed. It should be.
