Mathematics is a storytelling device.
This does not mean it is a fable-telling device, although a poor hypothesis or poor conclusion with good mathematics in the middle can make it seem so sometimes.

Mathematics is merely a tool, nothing more. It’s handy, like a hammer is for nails
