Back in 2000 I was working for a pharmaceutical company and it was right at the start of programming teams, sitting together in shared cubicles, working on different parts of the same code. It was foreign to me as I was from the days of the ‘lone programmer who will fix everything’ which are long gone (probably for the best) Oddly enough, even THEN, IT was outsourcing many programming tasks to Brazil; Sao Paulo comes to mind as a city that was mentioned frequently; it was dirt cheap at that point. Nowadays they’re known for being a tech epicenter but at that point there were still the “secret money savings trick” used by big corps.
