Ayaan Hirsi is the Atheist poster-child for Islam, just as Nabeel Qureshi is for Evangelical Christians.
Whatever her real beliefs are, she, like Nabeel Qureshi, are opportunists utilizing their history to sell books. Lots of books. Lots of speeches. Lots of “yay, she’s/he’s one of us now”.
Uncle Tom comes to mind. Find me someone who is working *within* their system for change.
Stepping OUTSIDE of your system (Islam in this case) and then telling everybody, “They suck and should change”, welll, that’s kinda of easy to do. She just switched teams.
British and American Anglos alike are generally under-educated in world history and especially blind to British and American imperialism.
I didn’t start ‘seeing it’ until my 20s and was exposed to some new perspectives. Once I started to see it, it kindled my interest in history and since then I’ve become fascinated with various historical perspectives and how they differ from each other. Fascinating stuff.
I believe he’s a good writer, but having grown up with an imperialist view of history with an American/British focus, I try to get away from it when I can. It’s steeped in my culture and even on the Internet, it’s hard to escape it.
