I created and ran Y-RIGHTS from 1990 to 1995 – when I was between the ages of 18 and 24.
at 24, I saw a natural leader in the group in a 14-year-old girl named Alex from Alaska who was homeschooled. I passed the torch on to her, and also a professor from New Zealand who knew a lot of the technical stuff and had worldwide connections in youth orgs at the time.
at the time I left because I felt as if I had “aged out” of youth liberation and now that there were a very significant amount of kids and teenagers under 18 on the group – (not just mostly college students and professors) – I figured they would be better at self directing the group in whatever area they wanted to go
but in retrospect, i never lost interest in the fights — but I didn’t want to hold them back by the ideas *I had* when I was 18-24
