A friend of mine, who has a high stakes job in data encryption for a big company and otherwise standard existence (married with children) goes in Minecraft in his off time. Even though I ran a server for others for two years to support _their_ efforts, outside of building a huge scale model of my house in it, I didn’t embark on any big creative projects. [the server itself _was_ the big creative project]
Anyway, it’s this type of stuff which is why I used to spend so much time “talking about” the possibilities of a system which starts with a simple tools for creativity and gives you an unlimited canvas to work within. It’s not even this game _itself_ that is fascinating to me; it’s wondering what immersive technologies will exist *in the future* that will leverage the same concept.
“electric legos”? Yes. But models of the human mind, DNA, memory, society, often utilize a “building blocks” analogy… and powerful tools that cross national borders, education limits, are the kinds of sketchpads that future ideas may eventually become further future realities.
